Reproduction
Female tigers reach sexual maturity at three to four years, whereas male tigers do so at four to five years. After a gestation period of 3 to 4 months, a female tiger gives birth to 3-6 cubs for every 2-2.5 years, and sometimes every 3-4 years. Newborn tiger cubs weigh about 1 kg (2 lb) and are blind and helpless. The mother feeds them milk for about 3-6 months and then the tiger cubs are introduced to meat. The tiger cubs depend on their mother for the first 18 months and then they start hunting on their own.
